Black Hair Mythology
Good Hair vs Bad Hair
This should be redundant but people are still stuck on this. Come on people. There is no such thing as good hair or bad hair. ALL hair is GOOD hair when properly taken care off. The black community has been brainwashed to believe good Hair is long, straight, or wavy a.k.a.Caucasian hair. News Flash! Slavery is over and everyone is moving on from the idea that everything white is better than anything Black. Whether your hair is straight as a line or breaks combs when combed, it's the Hair God wanted you to have.God makes no mistakes. Yous hair is Beautiful; just Face it--> Take care of it.
Trimming Hair Makes it grow FasterHair is already dead when it comes out your hair follicle. Trimming the ends does not affect how fast your hair grows out of the follicle just how healthy your hair looks. How fast hair grows is something that is genetically determined. Split Ends travel from the end of the hair to the root, splitting the hair up to the follicle and causing it to fall out. The same amount of hair grows on your head with or without split ends. Trimming off your split ends allows for a healthier mane since your hair does not have to play catch up between the hair that grows and the hair that falls.
SPLIT-end Fix Since hair is already dead when it grows out your scalp it is impossible to repair something that is dead. The only thing that those products do is temporarily seal your split ends to prevent more damage. The best and only solution to split ends is to cut it.
Black Hair DOESN'T Grow:
That is a crazy crazy myth. Most of the Black population has short hair because damage that black people cause to their hair and scalp. Dryness, Perms, Relaxers, combing especially while wet, heat, stress, and even rubbing your hair on your pillow can damage your hair. Because of this, the hair lost is greater that the hair that grows back. Moisturizing and wrapping hair, going natural, or with simple proper care your hair can grow as long as you want unless short hair runs in your genes.
No Weave:No Beauty
In this world where beauty seems to be based on the length of your weave and the shade of your skin, it's sometimes hard to feel comfortable to rock that natural curly afro of yours, or those braids, locs, or whatever makes you happy. Although weave{when applied correctly lol}is beautiful but wearing your natural hair takes courage. So be courageous and express your true beauty babay!
2 weeks: No sooner, No laterWaiting 2 weeks to wash hair is too long. The natural oil made from your scalp protects your hair from natural damages. On the other hand, too much oils and styling products clogs pores and attracts dirt. If your hair is oily wash every 3-4 days. For curly or longer hair it is recommended that you wash your hair weekly. ** It is also recommended to wash locs WEEKLY**
No creative Hairstyles with Natural Hair and DreadlocksThat is the most ridiculous myth I have ever heard. There are many many hairstyles that can be done with natural hair and locs, from up-dos to weaves. So many techniques, so many hairstyles. You can do anything you put you mind, effort, and most of the times, money into.
Prenatal Vitamins Make Hair Longer: Yes, Pregnant women's hair does grow longer and faster. That because of the high levels of estrogen during pregnancy. Prenatal pills do not have estrogen so they will not work to grow your hair unless they have one of the following vitamins that do work. For hair growth use vitamins Biotin, Folic Acid, and MSM (sulfur that hair collagen and keratin needs for growth).
Black Hair is Stronger Hair:First there is no such thing as strong hair. All hair is fragile since it's exposed to heat, the weather, and dirt everyday. Black hair needs to be treated with love and tenderness. It's one of the most precious things on your body. Use wide tooth combs for a more tender brush.
Grease, Grease, and More Grease:We always hear: "Make sure you Grease your scalp girl". Well that is a myth ( unless your scalp more dry than a desert). Oil is not a good source of moisture especially since your scalp makes its own oil and it cannot be absorbed by the hair shaft with the exception of virgin coconut oil. Most oil products contain petrolatum, mineral oil, and/or lanolin that just coat but don't moisturize the hair. Water-based products like daily spritzes are source of moisture. Oil can only be effective when used to seal in moisture after a good moisturizer has been applied.

HAIR TYPE
UNDERSTANDING YOUR HAIR TYPE
Hair, a collection of dead protein cells can either be found in straight or curly forms. According to the Andrew Walker’s hair typing system there are 4 major types of hair and each type has different sub-types. Identifying your coil pattern helps with knowing what products to use for healthier, stronger, and more vibrant hair.SIMPLE CHEMISTRY:{yes there is science in Hair}:Keratin is the fibrous protein found in mostly hair, skin, teeth and nails. Hair is a collection of a constant cycle of dead keratin hair cells pushing up and shedding to make room for new hair. The hair Keratin is what gives hair it's coil pattern. More Keratin=More curly the Hair
